“A Cry for Justice”

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations….A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth.” Isaiah 42: 1-4a

In December 2009, in Iraq, I wrote:

This pre-Christmas time reminds me of the words of Isaiah, (Isaiah 42: 1-6) about the one, God was sending to bring a new way of life. He would be filled with God’s Spirit. “A bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice in the earth.” Here in Iraq, we believe God cares for those bruised by violence or whose wicks are dim as they cry out for justice. It has been a privilege to walk with them as they seek healing, and at the same time experience God’s healing care for the bruised and weak parts of our own lives.
